Toronto based Jamie Kidd is a funk and jazz bassist turned electronic producer and dj. His taste for the unknown and skills as a musician inspire him to take the spirit of live music and improvisation into every performance. In one of the most vibrant electronic scenes in North America, Jamie has quickly established himself as one of the premier techno, tech.house, and minimal dj’s. As the resident for Platform and the Box of Kittens events in Toronto, he has performed alongside some of the world’s most respected electronic artists such as Speedy J, Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, Trentemoller, Rob Hood, and Alex Under.

Since 2005, Jamie has released several singles and remixes on labels including Toronto’s Thoughtless Music and California’s Monism. In 2006, Jamie joined Frederik Hatsav to form Metalogic. Their collaborations have produced edgy, dynamic and highly rhythmic electronic music, releasing for such labels as New York’s Addon, Brooklyn’s Hidden Agenda and London’s Perc Trax. The duo’s ‘Boxed and Warped’ EP, and ‘Surge Stimulator’ EP were strongly supported by artists including Perc, Extrawelt, Cari Lekebusch, Alex Bau, Derek Plaslaiko, Tony Rohr, Dietrich Schoenemann, Frankie Bones, and John Selway.

As we close out the year of 2008 we are pleased to welcome to the podcast, Bang Lee. Since 1996 Bang Lee has been throwing down throughout the rave and club circuits on a rapid fire basis. After hearing this young man one night while he was performing at Axis Boston I immediately noticed his taste in music. I actually did a double take to be honest, and I admit I usually don’t do that with most DJ’s these days! As his counterpart Ann K describes his set “Get ready for unexpected twists and turns, lefts and rights, peaks and valleys, bangers and creepers…….Expect the unexpected when he’s behind the tables…if it’s house, tech-house, minimal, funky, drummy, BASS, bleeps, builds, bangers, booty shakin, ta-ta shimmying, tough, dark tracks that you thirst for…well then people, just call him Dr. Gatorade”

I guess I couldn’t have described it any better.

Heavily influenced by the thriving music scene in Glasgow Scotland, Mark developed an interest in electronic music from a young age.  Being too young to participate in the rave scene during the nineties he was forced to enjoy whatever mix-tape or pirate radio broadcast he could and through those mediums he found a love for techno and house. As he grew so his desire to immerse himself in the dance culture, and he found himself regularly attending house and techno parties across the city, in particular  the legendary Subclub or “Subby” as locals call it.  Relocating to Boston to study communication at university, Mark quickly became apart of the electronic scene. Marks chunky style of techno combines elements of funk and abstract sound, all layered over bumpy bass lines that are peppered with trippy vocals.

In the world of dance music, Jesse Brooks is admired and well respected as a dj. Getting his start in the early 90’s underground scene of LA, he quickly built a strong following with a long residency at the legendary Fresh Produce parties. Traveling all over the US and playing parties as far away South America and Malaysia, he has taken his sound to listeners far and wide. Jesse’s eclectic taste allows him to play to any type of crowd.

Eventually Jesse’s passion for House led to him getting involved in the music on other levels (mix cd’s, producing, recording).  Jesse’s first recording success came in the form of two nationally released mix cd’s (LA Groove and Fresh Produce) with sales exceeding 30,000 units.  His very first project as a producer, gained a release on the very reputable Imperial Dub label. Additional releases have made their way onto such labels as Yoshitoshi, Large, Seasons, Om, City Deep, Offset, and Dutchie Music.  Jesse just finished a collaborative remix of Femi Kuti due out early next year.
