• [Mix] MELEE & MO7S “Live @ ReLoad” 4 Decks!

Thank you to Rhines and Brian Thomas for supplying the recording of the evening of ReLoad this past July. Below you will find our set on 4 decks. It’s a combination of all tech-funk. Completely unedited and straight from the night. Pure unadulterated rawness. The set was longer but the power was interrupted by a certain DJ who had large feet and disconnected the power cord. lol. We hope you enjoy!

  • minitek / AirDrop Remix Competition

Our good mates over at SoulClap posted this on their blog via the Indaba Music site. Remix competition pre-minitek anyone??? As it mentions below, if you’re remix chosen it will be released on Airdrop Records. Don’t sleep!

You will hear a remix or two coming out of Monism Music for this one.

“Ever since the announcement in May that the folks who throw the awesome minimoo parties in New York City were organizing a full on electronic music festival, the mothership has been abuzz with excitement for the long overdue birth of the northeast U.S.’s first such event. Now as the date of minitek electronic music and innovation festival fast approaches (8/12-8/14), the festival has teamed up with our good friends over at AirDrop to present a competition to remix AirDrop artist and minitek performer Fase Miusic Sender’s latest single on the label, Lejano Oeste. Even more exciting? We’re helping judge the competition! We haven’t been that impressed with any of the submissions so far, so all you producers get your versions in by September 3rd and if we like it, your remix will be released on AirDrop.” [soulclap]

  • [Event Review] Evolve 2008

Another year with all insurance policy forwarded to the Viking. I made my descent on Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada for my 3rd Evolve Festival. Rarely am I seen parading the club and festival scene as a warrior, but this is one of the festivals I do see eye2eye with. A green festival coming into its 10th Year, the premise is simple, save the planet and listen to good music. All energy at this festival comes from bio-diesel generators, supplying the 3000 attendees that make it every year. Now if we can party for 3 days on vegetable oil, I’m pretty sure our lame U.S. government and the corporate conglomerates could finagle some sort of alternative energy plan, but they can’t, hence me flying to Canada for Evolve 9.

This year saw rain a falling, but that did not stop the slew of evolvers to pitch their tents and dance their tits off. Reminiscent of Woodstock 96, my 2am arrival came amidst cats and dogs, but that did not stop the revelers from stomping their feet to Farina. The Dance tent being the only covered area left a full but muddy dancefloor, raging with those in search of rocking beats. And of course one could only assume. Farina brought the feeling, and people were very attentive. He left me off at around 127 bpm for my 4am time slot, giving me ample headway to bring the party into day 2. I was very pleased with this years set, and I believe i did keep the dance floor churning for a bit longer. Proceeding me came two of my favorite canadian dj’s, Steve The Viking and DVD. A heady 7 am set had me wondering how the sun had come out. None the less, the Vikings yearly dosage of Canadian Whiskey arose, and we drank til about noon when we could no longer function.

Saturday night brought forth a plethora of amazing talent, and of course the usual shenanigans you could expect from a group of crazy canadians chaperoning one american. The night kicked off with a killer set from Soundsyster vs Isis. A great mixture of bass heavy house and tech. A great way to start the evening. From there came a Herd of Wildebeests trying to cross the river of mud that exists in Antigonish. I regret to inform you the Alligators had a healthy dinner. We then proceeded to the main stage for Skratch Bastid.  That MF can cut. And I don’t lie when it comes to ill turntablists.  The rest of the night is merely a matter of your imagination. The following is some pictures taking by Miss Maxine, whom i regret not making it to see perform as she rocked a packed house on friday. Additional thanks goes out to the Canadian massive for being the most hospitable people I could ever ask to hang with. You know who you are!!!

  • West Coast Love – 2 Days in LA!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of heading out to LA and meet up with my long lost partner MO7S. We played a couple gigs together and on Saturday had the chance to perform one of our legendary 4 table sets. It was certainly very inspiring to the both of us and walking out left us with sooooo much energy! Respect to Brian Thomas, Rhine, Ricki, Mo7s, Reid, Eva, Ground Control, Martha and Mark (of course baby Anderson) and KB for being such wonderful hosts during my time out there. You can check out some more pics on my blog HERE!

  • MONISM003: Jon Cates – UnderMySkin- (Dave Dish Remix) Out Now!

A portfolio with credits spanning Global Underground, Ohm, & Morrison, Jon Cates feet are wet, and it isn’t stopping his tunes from affecting the dance floor. A Portland Oregon native, Jons musical endeavors began early on as his parents encouraged music from the get go. Today his sound brings together elements of dub, tech house, breaks and psy for a proper algamation of all things good. Jon’s initial projects include 3 albums with Dave Paul Lind (DpL) which have been totted by the likes of Nick Warren, among others. He is looked upon alongside Dave as one of the last great hopes in resurrecting American Dance Music. In a current industry cluttered with complacemt sounds and imagery beyond EDM’s first expectations, Jon will refresh you with his sounds, and not his marketing.

Under My Skin Dj Tool is a great opener piece with nice sounds from the original tune cascading thru a beat less ambience that you will be able to ride plenty of tunes into. Track 2 see’s Jon Cates original, a dubby tech house affair that has early hour appeal with big room potential. Track 3 sees Dave Dish swoop in for remix that takes the concepts of the original into a a new environment, emphasizing on Jon’s samples, and adding air blasts that will surely pump in time to the clubs fog machines. Be on the look out for these two all over the place, as well as here at home with Monism Music. Now available on BEATPORT

“Nice one! Like them all. The one I would most likely play would be the Dave Dish remix.
peace and Thanks!” (Simply Jeff, DJ Culture)
